About Us
History

The California Department of Public Health (formerly called the California Department of Health Services) established the Physical Activity and Health Initiative (PAHI) in 1996 and in 2004, it became the California Center for Physical Activity.

The California Center for Physical Activity is a champion for creative solutions to increasing everyday activity in California and serves as an expert resource for California physical activity partners. The Center also helps communities create more walkable and bikeable neighborhoods.

The California Center for Physical Activity addresses the obesity and diabetes epidemics, cardiovascular disease and stroke, osteoporosis, arthritis, colon cancer, and hypertension by targeting sedentary and irregularly active people across the lifespan.
