California Walk to School Headquarters

The California Center for Physical Activity operates California's Walk to School Headquarters, which can provide you with all the materials, ideas and technical assistance you'll need to get a Walk to School program started in your neighborhood. Whether you're starting your first Walk to School program, or are a seasoned veteran, our tools, services, and technical assistance can help you build a program for maximum success.

Register with California's Walk to School Headquarters and access more, helpful resources such as;

  • a Walk to School proclamation for school boards

  • a Walk to School brochure — available in English and Spanish

  • a walkability checklist, available in 11 languages, that helps students, parents and school officials identify and address safety and infrastructure issues that pose barriers for children walking to and from school

  • a flier to recruit Walk to School participants

  • a letter to parents and the school principal about Walk to School

These, plus more, Walk to School materials are downloadable. Click on Walk to School Headquarters.

For more information about other Walk to School resources, including a monthly conference call for Walk to School coordinators who want to network, contact the California Center for Physical Activity at walktoschool@cdph.ca.gov, or call Ces Murphy at 916-552-9895.

"I wanted to start a program that taught kids about transportation. Someone told me to call Anne Seeley in your office and she invited me up, opened up her files and basically showed me where I needed to go.

On the first international Walk to School Day, we had nine schools involved with 75-95% kids participating. We had no traffic on our roads and it was just a sight to behold."
